Up the Hill to Spring 2

Bulbs

aconites1

Very shortly after Christmas they’ll start peeping up. A few weeks later and a pound or two will buy you a pot of them when most other things in the garden are still hibernating. They are the first spots of colour to appear. Aconites pictured above have to be one of my favourites. I love the way they curl out of the ground.

I had a Christmas voucher, I went to the garden centre , I tinkered with a bit of compost, an old mug and a teacup that had lost its saucer. Little pebbles joined in and got a bit mucky. By the end I seemed to have made a bit of spring.

Thankyou to Sharon, who let me snap the aconites in front of her house.

I was in the garden centre today buying birdseed and I couldn’t help looking at the bulbs. I have lots in the garden but theirs seem to be coming on just a bit faster than mine are!

It all looks lovely and what a good idea to use cups and mugs as little pots - very pretty!

Wonderful aconites! I’ve got lots of bulbs pushing their way through the cold soil and I also bought some lovely muscari in my local garden centre last week that I have indoors on my mantlepiece. They have just started to bud so it won’t be long til I have a splash of blue - I can’t wait!

A beautiful little corner of spring.

What are the blue daisy-like flowers? They’re a gorgeous purpley shade of blue and look great next to the yellow of the daffodils.

Mmmmmm……Spring - though all my sprouting bulbs have been buried today!

    Maybe next week??

I adore aconites with their buttery yellow flowers and sweet little green ruffs.

Beautiful! I love your spring crockery garden - I bet the little pebbles love it too :-)

Aconites are one of my favourites too - each day I check out our Wild Wood to see more of the little ruffs of green pushing through the soil.

Your beautiful display of flowers has inspired me to go to the garden centre for some in flower bulbs. The ones in the garden won’t be flowering for a while yet.

How pretty! I can barely even imagine flowers — everything is so WHITE here!

Oh my gracious sakes alive (as my grandparents would say)!!! I can’t believe you’re that close to spring. Our garden centers aren’t even open yet (that happens March 1), unless you count the ones that double as hardware stores. Beautiful photos - I love your little teacup/bucket vignette.

    how lovely!

    I tried to love gardening… I just can’t. I love flowers. I love gardens.

It’s the ‘ing’ bit I just can’t do.

    Sigh.

How pretty. I think I’ll do something like that over the weekend to brighten up the drab days.
