Firstly here’s a quick reminder that I’m going to be hosting the first Splash of Colour week beginning this coming Monday 1st November, to be repeated in the first week of every month until February. Lots of bloggers are joining in already but if you fancy blogging colourful images next week to ward off grey, drab winteriness then we’d be delighted if you came to the party. Here is the Splash of Colour pool on flickr - it’s already an inspiring and very, very cheerful place to visit.
Very soon I will be opening an etsy shop - something I’ve wanted to do for a very, very long time. My current little online shop is lovely but it is a little isolated and I have a huge urge to be part of what is essentially a gigantic online hand-made fair. There’s a huge community over on etsy and I want to join in.
I’ve been ploughing through the more mundane aspects of setting up shop - policies, shipping, welcome statements, but you can help with the fun part - the appearance, or in other words, the silverpebble shop banner. Sue has helped me with this - what a wizard she is with photoshop. Thanks Sue.

or two?
These two look like they’ve had an ornithological falling out of some kind, but on the upside, when Sue had tinkered to create the mirror image, I realised that they reminded me a little of this:

What a beautiful photo at the beginning of your post!
I like the single bird best, can’t explain why but I do!

I like the one bird banner also. Yeah, welcome to Etsy. I opened shop just over a year ago and I think it was a great decision. It is a wonderful community. looking forward to Splash of Colour next week too! It’s also really nice to read a blog where “colour” is spelled with “ou”.

I like the idea of the memory of William Morris, but in practise I prefer the banner with the single bird.

I’m hoping to join in with a splash of colour… and will add some photos to the pool.
I like one bird, but I think he should face to the right (so his beak leads your eye to the direction of reading the words). Sorry I’ve been conditioned by a very analytical design tutor at art college.

I’m with Celia above - one bird facing right. It is beautiful and simple.
I am considering an etsy store at some point in the future, and would be really interested to know how it pans out for you and how easy or hard it is to set up.

I was going to say I like the two birds but either way I agree the birds should face inwards or each other if you use two, or both face inwards to lead the eye to the wording. Good luck with your Etsy shop

I like one bird on the banner but facing into the wording or maybe one bird either side.

Ooh, I like the single bird…. I covered them up one at a time to not be distracted by the other one and I think (personally) the two birds draws your eye away from silverpebble, but the one bird makes me look at the whole banner!
I have tried to upload pictures onto flickr but my computer is very sensitive and shuts down at any hint of virus scares when I upload pics, so will never let me do it unfortunately! However, I will definitely be going to visit your splash of colour and get a colour hit!!!

I’m wading in on the ‘one bird facing right side’ too! I’m wondering why you decided to go for Etsy rather than Folksy. I’ve been trying to research the whole thing before diving in and would be interested to hear if you have a particular reason for your choice. What a beautiful picture - the sea is glowing! Lovely news about the etsy shop too! I prefer the one bird banner - seems more in balance somehow, to me anyway.. Goodluck with all the sorting out!

I confess to feeling somewhat ‘who am I to say’ because this is my first ever ever visit. But the graphic designer in me can’t resist poking her nose in and voting wildly for that one very sweet bird. You should know that I am related to someone who looks at a batman logo and sees only a gaping, tonsilled mouth, (not anything batlike) so you should probably take that opinion of mine with a large handful of salt…

Good luck with your Etsy shop - you’ve got a wonderful ‘product’ which should stand out in the crowd. As for your banner, I think one birdie looking right gets my vote!
