T’isn’t the season
I am rebelling against winter.
I know, I know there’s open fires (and we do have one), stews and pies, preserves, cosy woollens, the odd Whisky Mac and the ‘C’ word, but I’ve got the hump. I think it’s because last winter was a grim one for us, spent waiting for daily news from St Vincent’s Hospital about my sister’s brain injury. She is very well now - you can see a comment from her on this post. What a moment. Thanks Luce, see you in a few weeks.
Despite the lovely (and if her consultants were to be believed, completely unexpected) news about my sister, I still have a big urge to fast forward to Spring. Ah, Springy Spring.
Imagine how heartened I felt when I saw these:
Look! Next spring’s baby catkins are all ready and waiting. Take THAT Mr winter. Pah!
This spring I didn’t manage to make elderflower cordial. AGAIN. I believe this label reads ‘Sweet Nothing, 2009′.
Still I have managed to make an elderflower pendant, just as winter is beginning. Elderflowers are not wintry at all. So there!
Do you think if I shook my fist hard enough at the sky the season wouldn’t change? No? I think you might be right, plus my neighbours would think I was barking, so perhaps I will just grumble quietly instead. When the weather is cold, grey and rubbish I’m going to look back at these pictures and cheer myself up.
Right, I’m off to eat some roast potatoes - if I choose to hibernate this winter (which I might) I shall need some blubber to keep me warm.

By the way, if you want to find out more or talk to someone about brain injury contact Headway - they are an absolutely outstanding organisation and helped us no end.

I’ll join you in the bah humbug, but only because it’s wayyyyyy too soon to be thinking about the big ‘C’ - for me anyway, Autumn can stay though with it’s log fires and Whisky Mac’s, bonfire night and Halloween.

ps. I didn’t know about your sister so a huge hug to you both. N xox

Best to forget all about the nasty bits of last winter and only think happy thoughts… like how brilliant you at at silver clay! That pendant is gorgeous and very springlike!

Saying this quietly but - I rather like winter. I admit I prefer spring I(and it did feel rather like we’d fast forwarded through autumn today) but I do like a bit of frost and an open fire and the winter-festival-that-shall-not-be-named-till-Mid-November.
I can quite understand why you’re not so keen - but glad to see you’re art-claying through it all

You’re so funny Emma! I’m with you — so not ready for winter. And we’ve apparently skipped fall here — we didn’t really have much of a summer, but it’s been cold this past week –eek! Glad to hear that your sister is doing better!

I am 150% in agreement-I HATE winter or that period between November and the end of January in particular. Not the C thing. That’s nice. But the whole rest of the damp, cold, dark, miserable concoction that makes up those 3 months. But as soon as the snowdrops are out, then everything is OK. Love the elderflower piece-so good to look at something summery.

Oh lovely thoughts of spring and things a-growing in the wild wood! (I actually like winter too - cos I love wearing my sheepskin boots and long cosy skirts)
That pendant is beautiful - reminds me of Japanese blossom designs - gorgeous!

Your pendant is beautiful Emma and I’m definitely with you, bring on the Spring!!! I’m so glad that your sister is defying the doctors original prognosis. Keep it up!

Gorgeous pendant Emma! I think the whole enjoyment of the seasons is the looking forward to them and the different festivals and dates that punctuate the year. We need winter to look forward to spring, that sort of thing!! Gorgeous pendant Emma and best wishes to your sister - I do hope she continues to make excellent progress.

Lovely, lovely pendant. I don’t like autumn and winter, and indeed, just five minutes ago the council came and filled up the sand container outside our house, ready for the icy weather……………………. (We are at the top of a hill on a nasty bend). Sprint is “my” season………………….

Hi Emma, the elderflower design and workmanship of the pendant is lovely. So glad to hear that your sis is making a good recovery. The tile ‘patchwork’ splashback below is beautiful and what an amazing shop that is. x

I used to hate the Winter. Its the mornings that do it. Difficult when you have to get up with small children but I avoid them now when I can. I stay up late though to make up for it.
I love the pendant.

I feel the same! I look at the buds on trees, and think, come on, skip winter and open up! People talk about liking the seasons, and i do, just as long as the sun shines all the time.

Ohhh, the elderflower pendant is so beautiful. I enjoy Autumn, Winter is OK as long as it’s not too cold and we have a little bit of snow.
