Shop
Mr P’s grandad grew copious amounts of vegetables and sold them from his grocer’s van in Yorkshire. Often when his customers approached the van they’d call ‘Shop!’ This happened in Kate Atkinson’s novel ‘Behind the Scenes at the Museum’ too. This time it was a pet shop in York. Do you live in another county or country and have come across this? Are the customers addressing the shop itself or calling for assistance? Whatever the answers I like the idea of calling shop. Mr P and I do so when we’re playing shop with little P. We buy odd socks and wooden fruit from her, mostly.
I found another little vintage heart locket recently and have been making more tiny silver flowers. This is the result.
It’s now in my shop which will be remodelled and restocked over the coming few weeks. LOCKET NOW SOLD.
To say thankyou for all your lovely lovely comments there’ll be a 15% discount off anything in my shop until 15th December (enter code blog3 at checkout). Silver fingerprint cufflink kits are now listed and more kits are coming soon (UK only though). I am currently working on the ‘build your own’ charm jewellery pages too. If you hop over for a browse do call out ’shop’ won’t you? Turn a blind eye to the scaffolding though.

Shop!!!! You know I’m heading over for a browse - though we’re at the end of the month so it probably will only be a browse at present. BTW, my little sis loves her locket - and she thinks you’re as clever as I do

I have never heard of calling ’shop’ before, but I do love the saying.
A beautiful locket as well and I’m off to have a nose at your ’shop’ though I may have to give Mr T a nudge in the right direction for Christmas!

Shop! Yes! And there’d be a little brass bell on a spring which would ping or tinkle when you came through the door. I’ve just had a lovely catch up with your posts since Beading tutorial 1 and I’ve missed lots of lovely stuff. Those tiles! The plates! Such a lot of lovely gorgeousness (and a lovely locket too). *happy sigh*

I love it! Perhaps I should encourage my clients to holler “Massage!” when I answer the door. Kind of like “trick or treat!”
So - UK only for just the kits, or for all of your wares? Wait - maybe you’re selling nothing but kits at present, and I’ve just made a fool of myself. Will visit shop.

Shop shop shop! I feel a birthday present to myself coming on - it’s a couple of months away, but hey, a girl’s got to plan ahead…

I originally lived in Essex and am familiar with”Shop!” as a shout to get the assistant to appear together with the tinkling door bell. Must be my age! :o) I love your little silver flowers. Just off to have a look in your shop.

Love the vintage locket brought to the 21st Century. ‘Shop!’ - that’s a blast from the past I remember well, when shopkeepers could be busy elsewhere and rely on this universal call from the customer for service. BFN. Lesley

Yes I remember “Shop!!” from somewhere waaaaaay back when I was a litlun. I think it was when I went with my Dad to various ‘works’ to buy stuff like veneers or new chisel blades. It’s all coming back, standing in a saw-dusty workshop doorway and Dad calling “Shop!!” to announce a customer had arrived.
I love the vintage locket all dressed up to party! I’ll keep my eye open for more vintage treasures to make-over

One of my Grannys used to live in the middle of nowhere and we visited, we used to love to be lifted up into the Grocer’s van to choose sweets. Lovely times gone past. The locket is a beauty, clever you! Will go over to the shop and have a look round…..

Yes I remember people calling shop, many moons ago! I also remember when Sainsbury’s was a lovely deli-type shop before morphing into the huge supermarket cartel that it is - but I digress! The pendant is lovely and I shall be nudging the other half in this direction come Christmas time!
Also loved your post on spring bulb planting in your village - a really lovely idea!

We are in sunny Yorkshire and I remember people shouting shop too. We lived close to our village shop and the poor shopkeeper Mr Harrap. We were the bane of his life, sitting on the chair by the counter that was really for old ladies and buying 20 pence worth of MOJOS as they were 4 for a penny, we’d ask for just one sometimes, we also used to buy flumps as he didn’t like touching them as the texture was so squidgy (well before the use of gloves for handling food). Happy Days, bet he loved us
