A new pebble
Well, Miss P2 arrived safe and well yesterday morning, juat after 6am. Here she is:

Things were slow to get going - Saturday was a bit frustrating, - hence the blogging as a displacement activity - but it was obvious she was keen to arrive from around 2ish yesterday morning.
I had her in the midwifery-led birthing unit in the Rosie maternity hospital in Addenbrooke’s, Cambridge. This is a small unit within the hospital designed to offer a homebirth-like experience with minimal intervention, very relaxed, quiet atmosphere and one-to one care. There are no hospital beds, just special couches and very few machines and bright lights. I can’t say the pain was fun but the midwife care I received was outstanding and the whole place really helped me stay as relaxed as possible.
Another discovery during the whole birth process was this fantastic digital radio channel full of birdsong. We took our DAB in and had it on throughout the birth. If you have a stressful day it’s incredibly helpful for relaxation - you can imagine you’re in a gorgeous meadow somewhere. Listening carefully Mr P and I have also heard horses, a game of cricket and some distant music on the recording. The birdsong channel will only be broadcast for a limited time but sponsors are being sought to keep it on the air, as apparently it’s in the top ten most listened to digital channels!
We’re now settling in and getting used to being a household of 4 pebbles rather than 3 (plus a four-legged hairy one of course). Thankyou for all your lovely good luck messages! And now, as though Miss P2’s arrival wasn’t enough, the household will be receiving another small addition:
This is Choc a Lots, a hand-made sock creature. I won her in Gina’s giveaway! Ace! Gina, she’s very beautiful and despite her possible astigmatism and slight skin complaint will be very much welcome. Thankyou!

What a lovely surprise to have Miss Choc a Lots move in with you too! I’m sure she won’t be any trouble.
Birdsong is so soothing, I’m going to tune our internet radio to it right away. We’ve two birdsong identification CDs - I’ve only heard the first 10 minutes - then I fall asleep!

Huge congratulations to Pebbles big and small! Such a lovely photo of the two of them together as well, thank you for sharing the precious meeting.
That birthing unit is such a brilliant idea. My community midwife for Cookie no 2 was the first to deliver a baby in it and she was so proud! We’re lucky to have the Rosie here, I think it’s a fab hospital.
So, do your handsewn booties fit? Enquiring minds need to know!

Huge congratulations to you all!!!!! I hoped this was why things had gone quieter with you! Your baby pebble is so gorgeous - I love the way she has her arm around you and is just snuggled in! Congratulations Emma - to you and the rest of your family. So glad it went well. I had No.2 in a community birthing place - so much nicer than the big hospital in which I had No.1.

ahhh congratulations to the pebble family. You made the whole birth thing sound relatively straight foreward and calm. I wonder if i’d feel like this when i have kids?
The bird song station is great too - i just had a little listen and then imagined sitting in a field in a countryside somewhere. I’m putting this in my faves from when my day job is getting too stressful.

How wonderful! I just got to know you so recently due to your lovely comments on my blog. Now I find you having just given birth to your most beautiful second child! A hearty congratulations! Your birthing experience sounded marvelous - I too gave birth to my first in similar surroundings. I am impressed that you have time and energy to do such a thoughtful post as well as comment on my blog! I just adore babies - perhaps it shows in what I make- and I wish I could be there to hold her too. Newborns are the absolutely the most amazing thing on earth. I hope that you will enjoy this precious time and take wonderful care of yourself and your new little bundle of joy!

Oh! Congratulations on your beautiful new pebble! I am new to your blog and it has been so lovely to visit and find pictures of scrumptious newborns to look at! The picture of your two children together reminds me very much of my own - I have an almost identical picture and I can well remember those anxious early days of hoping that the new arrival would be accepeted happily - he was and they are almost twin-like in their love for one another four years later! Wishing you all much happiness!
