Fancy a wintry walk?

I’m off to post my Christmas cards and I thought you might like to come along.

our house

We start here of course, at our house. The little pebbles didn’t come with me so the tiny wellies are still on the doorstep.

Onto the village green to crunch in the snow. We had a fall of around 7 inches the night before last. Here are the ice crystals sparkling on its surface.

walk-2

Past the conker tree to the post box and a pause to admire a friend’s cottage in the middle of a pretty terrace. These little houses were built in the 1600s.

walk-3

Back home now, to discover icicles on the dining room windowsill.

walk-4

As a child I used to draw wintry houses with icicles hanging from the sills like this. It gives me a thrill when I see the real thing.

walk-5

Through our garden gate (stencilled with a spot of snow and  F & B) and into the back garden. The little pebbles’ willow wigwam is looking pretty, although I’m not sure they’ll be playing in it today.

Finally, ever wondered what a beach hut looks like in winter?

Snowy beach hut

Here’s Mr P’s office/our spare room with Suffolk pebble and wire wreath above the door. Notice we hadn’t put the garden tools away.

It was at this point, standing in the snowy flowerbed, that I felt a coldness and a wetness in my boot. My red wellies had finally given up after five years - I discovered a split in the heel. It was a good way to end their loyal welly service.

Hee hee, our village looks much the same. Did Mr P make it to his party?

PS Word verification = “glass returned”. Do they know something about my mulled wine habit?

  2. Thimbleanna Says:

Oh Thank You Mrs. Pebble! What a beautiful place you live - and a pink house! Be still my heart!!! I love your beautiful little wreaths on your front door and above the door on your extra house! BEAUTIFUL!!!

What a lovely walk! I have a holey wellie too - defeats the object somewhat, doesn’t it?

What a beautiful walk. I love the photo of the ice crystals. We only have a tiny bit of snow here in Kent.

Your winter wonderland looks beautiful (even though cold and wet in the split welly department!)

Have you noticed that thatched cottages have no gutters - so now they have amazing icicles!!!

Enjoy the snow and keep warm and snug with the little pebbles.

I am getting really hacked off with everyone’s gorgeous snowy posts. We have no snow. We never get any damn snow.

    Please stop making me miserable.

Looks beautiful. Love the pink house and I really like your willow wigwam. I am thinking of making one here but wonder if it will survive our stony soil - I think willows like a bit of damp.

  12. jackie Says:

    Oh I DID enjoy that.

I cannot begin to tell you how satisfying I found this post, Mrs P! It’s wonderful to see all the little details of your environment, and I am swooning over that wee office/guest room cottage - I need one! I think you should start some kind of “A Walk to the Post Office” photo meme; it would be great fun to see everybody’s surroundings. Perhaps I’ll ape you and do it myself, although our snow is pretty patchy and unimpressive at this point…

  15. Lesley Says:

That was a lovely walk Mrs P and I’m in love with your pink house and your pretty village!

We had an exciting icy moment this morning, investigating ice crystals in the chickens’ water dispenser. Moogsdad gave the Mooglets a quick run down on the ins and outs of crystal formation :)
